Pace, budget and social style

Three lifestyle axes often separate the countries in this pool. Pace runs from calm, small-town life to big-city buzz; some countries in the region are known for very large, busy cities, while others lean calmer overall. Budget runs from a low cost of living to high-income, high-cost settings, and the spread across these ten countries is wide.

Social style, from reserved to expressive, also varies. Many Latin American profiles lean toward a warmer, more expressive everyday style and closer family and community ties, but there are real differences between countries, and the quiz scores each one on its own profile rather than by region.

North and South America compared

The United States and Canada often sit at the high-income, high-cost end of the budget axis and lean toward individual independence on ties, while differing from each other on several values axes, such as economy and the role of religion in public life. Compared with them, many Latin American profiles lean toward a lower cost of living and closer ties.

Climate is a less simple divide than it looks. The pool runs from cold Canadian winters to the tropics, but also to the cooler south of Chile and Argentina and highland areas with mild weather. If climate matters to you, check how each country's single climate position compares with the region you have in mind, since profiles are country-wide.

Reading your Americas result

With only ten countries, the gap between ranks can be large, so your top match may stand well clear or several may sit close together. Open the axis chart and compare yourself with each of your top 5, then read your top country's profile to see its one-line reason on each axis and its three nearest countries across all 60.

The least compatible country in this pool is worth a look too. Its one-line reason points to where you and that country are furthest apart, which helps you see what you would find hardest to adjust to. If that axis is one you answered only mildly, the gap may matter less in practice than the ranking suggests.

Questions, answered

Which countries are included?

Ten: the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Peru. The full quiz on the home page ranks all 60 countries if you want a wider comparison.

Does it account for safety?

No. Safety is not one of the 12 axes, and the quiz has no information on current conditions. Check your government's current official travel advice for any country and region you are considering.

Why Uruguay?

Uruguay is one of the 60 countries in the quiz and often comes up for people with calmer, more balanced lifestyle answers. If it is your match, the Why you match panel shows which axes put it there and where you differ most.
